2027 VA Disability Pay Schedule & COLA Dates
VA disability compensation is paid on the first business day of the month, covering the previous month's benefits. If the 1st falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the VA pays you on the last business day before it instead.

2027 VA Disability Pay Schedule: Exact Payment Dates & COLA Outlook
If you receive VA disability pay, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC), or a VA pension, knowing your payment dates helps you run your household smoothly. It lets you pay your rent, cover utility bills, and avoid bank overdraft fees.
This guide gives you the full 2027 VA payment calendar. It explains early bank deposits, breaks down the upcoming Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA), and tells you what to do if a payment is missing.
How VA payment dates work
The VA pays benefits in arrears. That means you get paid after the month ends, not during it. For example, your July benefit covers the month of July, but it lands in your bank account at the start of August.
Two basic rules set your direct deposit date each month:
- Standard Payout: Money arrives on the first business day of the month.
- Weekend or Holiday Shift: If the 1st falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or federal holiday, your money arrives on the final business day before that date.
These payment rules are set by federal laws (38 U.S.C. § 5120 and 38 CFR § 3.31). They make sure you never have to wait through a holiday weekend without your funds.

Does Your Bank Pay You Early?
Do you use a military-friendly bank or app like Navy Federal Credit Union, USAA, Chime, Armed Forces Bank, or SoFi?
Many of these financial institutions offer Early Direct Deposit. When the U.S. Treasury sends payment signals a few days ahead of time, these banks post the money to your account right away. This means your deposit might land 1 to 2 business days earlier than the official dates listed above.
Early direct deposit is a service provided by your bank, not the VA. Check with your bank directly to confirm their early deposit rules.
2027 COLA Outlook: Will Your Pay Increase?
Every year, VA disability payments change based on the government's Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). This adjustment matches the annual Social Security COLA to help your benefits keep up with inflation.
- Announcement Date: The official 2027 COLA percentage will be announced in mid-October 2026.
- Current Estimates: Financial experts currently project a 2027 COLA increase between 3.0% and 3.8%.
- Effective Date: The new rate goes into effect on December 1, 2026. You will see the increase in your check on December 31, 2026.
Estimated 2027 Monthly Rates (Single Veteran, No Dependents)
Here is how a sample 3.5% COLA increase would raise monthly payments:
| Disability Rating | 2026 Monthly Pay | Estimated 2027 Monthly Pay (~3.5% COLA) |
| 10% | $176.02 | ~$182.18 |
| 30% | $538.99 | ~$557.85 |
| 50% | $1,105.26 | ~$1,143.94 |
| 70% | $1,808.20 | ~$1,871.49 |
| 100% | $3,842.51 | ~$3,977.00 |
Special Situations That Change Payment Timing
Most months, you can simply follow the payment table above. However, a few special situations work differently:
- New Claims or Rating Increases: If your claim was just approved, the VA needs time to update your records. Your next monthly check might not show the new amount right away. Any missing funds will be paid to you as back pay.
- Retroactive Pay (Back Pay): Back pay covers the time between your effective date and your claim approval date. Back pay does not follow the monthly calendar. It is sent as a single payment, usually within 7 to 15 business days after your decision letter arrives.
- Concurrent Retirement & VA Pay (CRDP / CRSC): If you receive military retired pay alongside VA disability, these funds come from two different systems (DFAS and the VA). They usually arrive on or around the same day, but they will show as separate transactions on your bank statement.
What to do if your payment doesn't arrive
If your payment date passes and you do not see your funds, complete these steps in order:
- Check your VA.gov account. Confirm the deposit date and amount on file.
- Check your bank's pending transactions. The money may be on its way but not yet posted.
- Give it a day or two. Bank processing can add a short delay even when the VA sent the payment on time.
- Verify your account information. A recent bank switch or address change is one of the most common causes of a missing payment.
- Call the VA at 1-800-827-1000 (TTY: 711) if you've checked everything above and still don't have your payment.
Once you know the two rules behind VA payment timing, paid in arrears, and moved earlier around weekends and holidays, you can plan your budget with confidence for all of 2027.
Bookmark the table above, and check back in October for the official COLA announcement.
