    Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

    PTSD (VA Rating)

A mental health condition resulting from traumatic military service events -- among the most commonly service-connected VA disabilities -- rated under Diagnostic Code 9411 based on severity of social and occupational impairment.

Rating levels: 0% (asymptomatic but SC), 10% (mild/intermittent), 30% (occasional decrease in work efficiency), 50% (reduced reliability and productivity), 70% (deficiencies in most areas), 100% (total occupational and social impairment).

Military stressors that establish PTSD include combat, MST, personal assault, POW, training accidents, and non-combat trauma.

Veterans do not need a formal military report of a stressor -- a credible personal statement is sufficient for many PTSD claims.

Frequently asked questions about PTSD (VA Rating)

What is PTSD for VA rating?+

PTSD, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, is a mental health condition. It can happen after very stressful events during military service. The VA rates it using something called Diagnostic Code 9411. This rating looks at how much your daily life, work, and social activities are affected by your PTSD.

How does the VA rate PTSD?+

The VA rates PTSD based on how bad your symptoms are. They look at how these symptoms make it hard for you to work or be around other people. The more your daily life is impacted, the higher your VA disability rating for PTSD might be. They use specific rules to decide this.

How do I get a VA rating for PTSD?+

To get a VA rating for PTSD, you need to show that your PTSD is connected to your military service. You will file a claim with the VA. They will then ask for medical records and information to support your claim. A C&P exam will likely be part of this process.

How much compensation can I get for VA PTSD?+

The amount of compensation you can get for VA PTSD depends on your specific rating. Ratings are given in percentages, like 10%, 30%, or higher. A higher rating means more compensation. This money helps support you because of how your service-connected PTSD affects you.
