Yellow Ribbon Program
A VA-approved agreement between the VA and participating private colleges and universities that supplements the Post-9/11 GI Bill to cover tuition costs that exceed the program's public in-state school cap.
The Post-9/11 GI Bill covers 100% of in-state public tuition. For private schools with higher costs, Yellow Ribbon fills the gap -- the school contributes a set amount, and the VA matches it dollar-for-dollar.
Only veterans at 100% Post-9/11 GI Bill eligibility (36+ aggregate days of post-9/11 active duty service) qualify. Not all private schools participate, and each sets its own contribution amount and the number of students it will support per year.
