    Concurrent Receipt

The right of military retirees with VA disability ratings to receive both military retirement pay and VA disability compensation simultaneously, eliminating the historic offset that reduced retirement pay dollar-for-dollar.

CRDP (Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay): phases out the offset for retirees with a combined VA rating of 50%+ or P&T status.

CRSC (Combat-Related Special Compensation): for combat-related disabilities only; available at any VA rating; tax-free.

The Major Richard Star Act (2023) extended CRDP to Chapter 61 (medically-retired) veterans with fewer than 20 years of service.

You cannot receive both CRDP and CRSC simultaneously — the VA pays whichever is higher.

Frequently asked questions about Concurrent Receipt

    What does Concurrent Receipt mean?+

Concurrent Receipt means that some military retirees can get both their full military retirement pay and VA disability pay at the same time. Before, one type of pay would reduce the other. This change helps retirees get all the benefits they earned for their service.

Who can get Concurrent Receipt (CRDP/CRSC)?+

Concurrent Receipt is for military retirees who have a VA disability rating. There are different rules for CRDP and CRSC, but generally, it helps retirees avoid having their retirement pay lowered because they also get VA disability pay.

How do I sign up for Concurrent Receipt?+

You usually do not need to apply directly for Concurrent Receipt. If you are eligible based on your military retirement and VA disability rating, the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) will automatically adjust your pay. It's smart to make sure all your records are correct.

How does Concurrent Receipt affect my pay?+

Concurrent Receipt can significantly increase your total monthly income. Instead of one payment being reduced by the other, you receive both your military retirement pay and your full VA disability compensation. This means more money in your pocket each month.
