Frequently asked questions about SAH Grant
What is the SAH Grant?+
The SAH Grant, or Specially Adapted Housing Grant, is money from the VA. It helps veterans with certain severe service-connected disabilities. This money can pay for changes to their home to make it easier to live in. It can also help buy or build a new home that is already adapted to their needs.
Who can get an SAH Grant?+
To get an SAH Grant, a veteran must have a permanent and total service-connected disability. Also, a doctor must say that certain changes to a home would really help. These changes must be for things like using a wheelchair, or for sight or balance problems.
How do I apply for the SAH Grant?+
You need to apply through the VA. First, you'll need to show that your disability qualifies you. The VA will review your application and medical records. They may also send someone to look at your home or plans for a new home. This helps them see what adaptations you might need.
How much money can I get from an SAH Grant?+
The amount of money you can get from an SAH Grant changes each year. There is a maximum amount set by the VA. This money is meant to cover the cost of special changes to your home or help buy an adapted home. It aims to make your home more accessible.
